Z!NK Magazine!

cover_thumb I was in Wegmans (Supermarket) over the weekend and decided to do an up and down of the magazine section.
I saw this month's Vogue and didn't care for the other mags... Until I was struck by the amazing cover of Z!NK Magazine's February 2010 issue!

The issue's inside photo shoot titled "Wild Things" made me an instant fan when I flipped open to the spread.
I'm a little upset I just found out about this magazine but a simple Google search of "Z!NK Magazine" will give me tons of results. This 2002 publication seemed to be pioneering emerging designer talent and photography.
I think I found my new mini-bible (Vogue being the big kahuna). I still want to get a subscription to Vogue Italia, though. And French Vogue.

The magazine is fantastic for fashion photography and viewing incredible pieces from vintage to pieces by emerging designers.
This is going to be a great addition to my collection of mags. The styling (fashion and photography) in each of the spreads is impeccable and interesting.
I wish I could post the shoot I love the most on here but I can't find it anywhere online.
But take a look at some of the covers and an outtake from the cover shoot.
Stylish, no?

If you're not in a rush, take a listen to this band, The XX. Maybe you'll like them, or maybe you'll enjoy the song.

Oscar O Lima

Whilst looking over my Lady GaGa's costumes of her incredible The Monster Ball Tour, I discovered a fashion designer. This fashion designer is my new obsession in fashion. This fashion designer exudes a design style similar to my own. Oscar O Lima or, OLIMA ATELIER is my designer of the year.
olima03
He's my newest inspiration in my designs and brings a whole new light to my view of design. He thinks of things I haven't thought of and executes them in extreme detail. So he is my newest icon in design because of those facts. I see a bit of me in his designs so that attracted me automatically.

Of course my designs aren't his (vice versa) but we both have a style that would merge well. Speaking of merging, Oscar teams up with another amazing artist, Franc Fernandez. Their pieces merge almost too well. In short, Olima Atelier is a fantastic up and coming designer. I sent him an e-mail about a week ago and he recently replied. He's very humble and "happy" that his work can "inspire young new designers." Watch out for Oscar O Lima.

I Know Yves Saint Laurent. No, He Won't Call My Name

One of the best covers of all time? I think so.

New Artist: Natalia Kills

Natalia Kills

Quick update for today. Exams and sketching and all that...
A friend introduced me to this new artist named Natalia Kills who is signed under Cherrytree Records. The same label that found/signed Lady GaGa. Apparently she's been doing this for a number of years but she is just deciding to come out with her new style (sound and look) away from her pop-like style in 2005. She's from the UK and is Jamaican and South American. I think she's rather awesome, though. One of the things I find most interesting/unexpected is that she is going to release a film titled The Exhibition alongside the release of her debut album Perfectionist.
The thing that's funny/awesome to me is that the same person who told me about this girl, told me about GaGa. That was in July 2008 - way before she was even close to being the household name she is today. I fell in love with her and followed her every step of the way. Seeing this new girl, Natalia Kills, under the same circumstances (from my perspective) is neat. Really neat. Listen to/watch her video for "Zombie." This apparently isn't an official single rather than a hype single.

Being Creative Hurts My Head

I've been sketching my designs for FIDM all day. The only problem?
I only accomplished finishing one.
So tomorrow I'm going to continue my quest of finishing these in a week.
When I look back after drawing/coloring/detailing each piece, I realize it takes a long ass time.
My figures have finally changed to what I feel is comfortable and what is right for portfolios.
So that's good.
I have a personal issue with lines. I can't draw a straight line to save my life.
I also can't draw lines the way I want them to be.
That's my rant on my sketching.

I had a little fun for about 5 minutes with Garageband today. I decided to mess with the Grand Piano and I made myself laugh with the effects.
I barely use it, but I might start.
On a note about $$$$$... I've been trying to save as much as I can to purchase the Nikon D3000.
It's $550 at Best Buy.
Now, working only one day a week is making this camera hard to obtain.
But I have a few more things that will help me gain as much money as I need.

Here's that sketch I did today:

And for my music, I've fallen in love with Queen and Freddie Mercury. So, here's "Somebody to Love" from my newest musical/style icon: Freddie Mercury.

2010 and I'm Already Learning More

... About myself.
In the past 24 hours I've figured out a bunch of things about myself.
It seems like 2010 is my year of learning more about me vs. my growing up in 2009.

I'm pretty sure I dislike a lot of people. Pretty sure.
My style is changing rapidly. For some reason I'm getting edgier but I'm liking it.
Rock is becoming more prominent in my taste of music.
I WANT TATTOOS!
Tonight, I was looking into the bathroom mirror taking off my contacts and thought "I'm tired of seeing my skin clean."
I am.
But the tattoos I want are meaningful so it's not bad. I'm attracted to getting them on my arms/hands/fingers.
The only material thing I want is a DSLR. More specifically a Nikon D3000.
I almost have enough saved up to get one as a package deal (comes with another lens).

As a teenager, am I alone in feeling/having the whole "fuck you" attitude and not liking anything?
I love my mom with everything I am but I get annoyed easily by just being around my parents.

For music today, I found Taylor Momsen's band The Pretty Reckless is rather good.
I also love gazing at her style.
Here's their song "I, Zombie" (my favorite).
